In search of Magnolia

A movie blog. Searching for the thrill I first experienced when I saw Magnolia by P.T. Anderson. I'll try to review every movie I see, good or bad, and top that with some other movie related stuff.

We all love John Carpenter’s The Thing, right? Here’s Pingu’s remake. Adorable and scary! :)

The Unborn

The unborn (2009) - in my mind the most average American horror flick of the last couple of years. Mathematically average, but yes it does tell something about the movie.

Hot chick (Odette Yustman) is haunted by something she can’t gasp. With terrible things happening around her, she starts investigating, discovering some esoteric things of her family’s past that explains everything. She ends up fighting evil and conquers it.
Rings a bell? Might as well ring a whole clock tower.

I chose this movie because it’s rather short, I had some time left, and sure, wanted to see a horror movie. It doesn’t fail there, brings a stereotype but well shot and produce horror. It however brings nothing new to the table. One could argue the story is new, but honestly, who cares. There’s only so many mythical characters that can be used in a new set-up. At a certain point, they’re getting insignificant. The movie had elements from The Exorcists (well, there’s an exorcism) and The Grudge (scary kids), but both movies are a lot better.
