In search of Magnolia
A movie blog. Searching for the thrill I first experienced when I saw Magnolia by P.T. Anderson. I'll try to review every movie I see, good or bad, and top that with some other movie related stuff.
Quentin Tarantino on the inspiration for Pulp Fiction.
The most peculiar thing however is that the youtube link has fuck in it!

How cool is that!
7 minutes well spent. I want to see it again, like right now! As all the movies it features. Reminds we what I love about films.
Quentin Tarantino -vs- The Coen Brothers - Two of my favorite things, mashed-up. Long, but delightful.

Basterds must be basterds

I love Tarantino. Like all my favorite moviemakers he’s a renewer. More than that, he defined his own style. Visual. Brutal. An unseen collage made on a rich history of film making (martial, grind, ..). Tarantino is a storyteller, that’s what he does, that’s where he rules.
Like the rest of the world, I was pretty curious to see Inglorious Basterds, and I did a few months ago.
Man, it’s a good movie. There’s only one thing I’m disappointed in: that it’s a Tarantino flick ..
How is that?
Well, the story is brilliant. But it could’ve been told otherwise. Bluntly said: Tarantino’s basterds were pussies. If this movie was directed by any other director, it would have been a perfect balance between story and violence. But from Tarantino I expect more brute force.
Inglorious basterds is too intelligent for Tarantino, or so it seems. Previous work was stealth intelligent. You are watching a super clever movie, but were distracted by this fact because of what happens on the screen. The violence. The dialogues. That’s what makes it superb. It’s like watching a boxing match then suddenly realize the boxers are actually dancing a tango. And you go: wooow.
I’m glad this movie is made, but I’m dying to see a traditional Tarantino version of it. It will never come, alas. Harder, to smother the story, not kill it nor change it. To find the beauty in a fighting game, not look for violence in a dance contest.
