Source Code
Unfortunately it’s been a while since I saw a movie worth reviewing. Not that I watched only crappy flicks the last couple of months, I actually watched shit. Shit as in nothing, not crap. But tonight I had to watch, free coupon, only valid today. Limited choice, and I ended up choosing between Source Code and Sucker Punch. Actually, I am quite curious about Sucker Punch as well. You know,...

Blow
How funny (or easy, schmuck, ..) would it be to claim that Blow (2001) blows. Except it doesn’t. I have this movie in my rack for ages. Finally came to watch it because a somewhat younger very promising colleague, Renaat, pitched it. Well pitched, he called this his favorite movie in some casual talking, and I was like .. WHUT? Sure, there must’ve been a reason to buy this movie....

Clockbusters
Intriguing and different movie quiz: Clockbusters. You got to guess 50 movies, based on 3 clue images. That’s images not from the movie itself, but that for sure are related. My score: 40/50 Pretty curious about the ones I couldn’t decipher. Help me out? It’s not the Bicycle Thief .. This one for sure rings a bell, but I can’t lay my finger on it. Not...

A Serious Man
Yet another Coen flick. Sorry, they’re just too productive and too good. Although I believe A Serious Man (2009) is not a very typical Coen movie. And yet it is. The atmosphere totally fits their oeuvre; the characters are right and somewhat outlandish; the situational humor is recognizable. But the movie in general is more complex and in fact a bit peculiar. It’s about a Jew...

The Wire
What a blast! I spend the last 2 months not watching movies, but watching this HBO hit series The Wire. It has been described as the best series ever. I wouldn’t go that far, but actually can’t disagree. It is very very very good. I’ve been warned it might take a time before you start appreciating the series, and it turned out to be true in my case. It’s not bad in the...

How much does your life weight?
How much does your life weight? With that question Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) starts his motivational speeches in Up in the air, a movie by Jason Reitman which you might know from Juno. Ryan is not a motivational speaker, he’s a professional traveler. Mostly hired to fire people, from time to give his talks. It’s an easygoing movie, about a guy chasing the wrong goals in live....

Infographic of the Day: The Coen Brothers'... →
Such a great duo! This infographic is how they keep on recycling the same actors in different movies and roles. If you look at it like that, their whole oeuvre just flashes trough your mind, and you want to see them again .. like NOW!! All of them!

The hurt locker
What’s the fuzz about? It’s a war movie. There are many war movies. Some not as good, and some far better. But I mean 6 Oscars? WTF! It must be an all American thing, there is no other explanation. Maybe this is the best inside view on Iraq and the situation there. Something very meaningful for American citizen, “our boys in Iraq”, right? There’s the patriotic...

Inception
Wow, what a movie! I know opinions about this movie are divided, but I consider it a masterpiece. Yes I’m late to the party. I must be the absolute last person on earth to see it, but here we are. I rarely see a movie in theaters anyway, so I spend 6 euro’s yesterday to my VOD provider to see it in HD. What a blast! This picture fixes Christopher Nolan a bit firmer in my list...

Julie & Julia
Chickflick!? Well, to come clean, I have to admit I’m an absolute foodie. I love to eat, and love to cook. This also means I devour everything cooking. I love buying gear. I love wandering in cookbooks. I love cooking shows on the telly. And I absolutely love movies about food, even chickflicks. There I said it! So what’s this Julie & Julia (2009) movie about? It’s about a...

The Men Who Stare at Goats
Jedi Warriors. The new hope of the American army. (That’s 2 Star Wars references in 2 sentences, puh) The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) is a movie about a secret squad, a secret weapon: the power of the mind. A bunch of tree-huggers really, who think they can use their psychic abilities to change the world. The summum of their power: stare at a goat till it dies (and when it does, feel bad...

Ponderings by @ThatKevinSmith
The other night, director Kevin Smith was having an interesting monologue on twitter. It took him quite some tweets. Here’s everything combined (space between individual tweets) Via @nicko786 “Then explain garbage movies like Vampires Suck and DragonballEvolution” Sir, there will ALWAYS be movies made YOU don’t like. Bad movies have existed since human beings have...
